Daily Expenditures-

We are a mobile nation we burn 137.93 billion gallons of gasoline in 2009 and 142.35 billion gallons in 2008.  The volume dropped 3% but the price per gallon dropped 15%.  If we now concern ourselves with what I can do, think about the following items.  If you drive 15000 miles a year, you average 41 miles per day.  To lower you mileage 3%, eliminate 1.4 miles a day.  If we started to lower the amount of gas we are using the price will come down, and more importantly, we will be spending less on gasoline and be a better steward.  Read below on ideas to do that:

Car travel cost
calculated as $2.40/gal
IRS allowance rate is $0.505 per mile covers all costs
    MPG                10    15    20    25    30
    Cost per mile - gas        0.24    0.16    0.12    0.10    0.08

Assuming 25 miles per gallon, you drove to the store, another store, the library and home.  You traveled 10 miles.  It cost in gas $1.00 and IRS calculated cost of operating an auto at $5.05.  If you could have made the same trip in 9 miles, it would be $0.90 and $ 4.51.

If we start thinking before driving we can save much, much more than other saving methods and be better stewards.
